Available CDs

Not long ago, the only way to hear Blaze's music was to buy Blaze some beers in exchange for a copy of his vinyl record or to know someone who had a cassette of his studio recordings. Now there are several CDs of Blaze's music available (with more coming!) and four Tribute CDs.

Coming Soon! Blaze Foley and the Beaver Valley Boys
From Blaze's sideman and producer-partner Gurf Morlix comes the definitive collection of their Houston recording days, circa late 1970s. Blaze's voice is at his strongest and the production is tastefully arranged. Despite being mastered from studio safety tapes (all of Blaze's master tapes were either lost or stolen), the fidelity is surprisingly good. No tapes retrieved from the dashboard of a car, thankfully, Gurf protected them and has mastered a very nice collection of early Blaze. Look for it on the Lost Art Records label this September or October, 2006.

If I Could Only Fly
You can get the Tribute CDs in a cool box set with DVD (containing rare videotaped performances of Blaze and Townes) from Border Dreams in Europe and from Deep South Productions in Austin, Texas.

Wanted: More Dead Than Alive
Waddell Hollow Records has released Blaze's last studio recording. This is the last album that Blaze was working on at the time of his death. The master tapes disappeared after a legal squabble and were later destroyed in a flood. David and Lelland Waddell, friends of Blaze and musicians for the recording, found a safety tape and lovingly restored it. Available in Europe from Border Dreams.

Oval Room
Lost Art Records, a record label "dedicated to promoting distinctive, independent Texas artists," has released brand new, never-before-heard tracks of Blaze Foley, recorded live at the Austin Outhouse (recorded by John Casner in December 1998) entitled "Oval Room." John taped Blaze less than two months before he was killed. These tracks have been remixed, sweetened, mastered and accompaniment added by original producer John Casner and veteran producer and early Blaze-collaborator Gurf Morlix. It's a great album lovingly recorded, preserved and produced.

Live at the Outhouse
Lost Art Records in 1999 released the first collection of John Casner's recordings of Blaze at the Austin Outhouse, entitled "Live at the Outhouse." The tracks come from the same recording in December, 1988 and were initially released posthumously on cassette, entitled "Live at the Austin Outhouse (and Not There)" -- the tag line being one of Blaze's many jokes, referring to the fact that Blaze overdubbed some instrumentation and backing vocals at John's studio after the performance. This was the first volume of the live recordings, the second of which is mentioned above.

Movies

BLAZE FOLEY, the Documentary
Abraxas Productions, LLC of Austin, Texas is in production for the documentary movie tentatively titled Blaze Foley, directed and produced by Kevin Triplett. In 1996, Kevin began researching Blaze's life. Now finally in post-production (editing phase), the documentary is anticipated to be 90 minutes long and is scheduled for completion in 2007.

Discography

Blaze recorded hours of music but very few of it is available. His "Live at the Outhouse" was recorded over a two night gig at the Austin Outhouse, within two months of his tragic death. At the same time, he was recording tracks for future release on the Heartland Records (UK) label but the master tapes disappeared and the label is now out of business. Earlier master tapes from Magic Rats Studios (Houston), Loma Ranch (Fredericksburg, Texas) and Vytal (Muscle Shoals, Alabama) were either lost, stolen, or impounded.

A more complete discography is being created by the documentary project and will be made available here.
